Domain Name Provider Go Daddy Launches IPv6 Virtual Dedicated Hosting

June 07, 2012
by Jonathan Watkins

Go Daddy will be providing a VPS hosting solution for their customers in order to prepare them for the Launch of the World IPv6.

The IPv6-enabled Linux Virtual Dedicated Servers is just one of the initiatives Go Daddy has been working on since the news broke of the eventual IPv6 changeover. Others include dual Stack DNS for domain names and enabling redundant IPv6 transit from multiple providers.

With the upcoming changes immanent, CEO Warren Adelman described Go Daddy’s commitment to keeping their customers one step ahead of the game. "Go Daddy wants to make sure our customers stay ahead of the technology curve. Our customers view us as their IT partner, so we want to make sure the transition to IPv6 is seamless."

Due to a forecasted increase in internet traffic and demand for domain names the IPv6 was announced in order to continue the growth of the web.

With more than five million hosted websites, the transition has been a lengthy process for Go Daddy with preparations for the change dating back to October 2007 for the domain name providers with over five million hosted sites.

With internet traffic reportedly set to quadruple between 2010-2015, Leslie Daigle, Chief Internet Technology Officer at the Internet Society which is hosting the launch, emphasized the importance of the IPv6 stating that, "Deploying IPv6 ensures the Internet continues to grow and is essential for businesses that want to grow with it.

"After 20 years of development and increasing deployment around the world, IPv6 is ready for business now and, with World IPv6 Launch, IPv6 is the 'new normal' for the global Internet. It's great to see companies like Go Daddy providing customers with an easy way to deploy IPv6 for their services,"

Also voicing his support for the IPv6 and Go Daddy’s preparation was CTO Wayne Thayer who commented that “Deploying IPv6 is like upgrading the Internet.”

He commented in a blog post regarding his company’s IPv6 transition, "Last year, Go Daddy enabled queries over IPv6 for the tens of millions of DNS zones that we host. Since DNS is used to resolve virtually every website on the Internet, IPv6 support is a key component of the overall move to IPv6."
