HostGee Announces “Enterprise Grade” Managed Firewall Cluster

October 24, 2012

HostGee has launched a new Managed Firewall Cluster service, it was announced recently. Whereas previously the company offered “standalone dedicated firewalls”, its new service offers dedicated server clients additional stability. The solution “operates in concert with a pair of larger, higher-capacity, highly-available firewall systems” and places individual clients in a “separate Cisco context” which shares common hardware.

“Our Managed Firewall Cluster service offers higher capacity, stronger performance, and greater fault tolerance than similar products on the market,” suggested HostGee’s CTO, Arif Noor Salah. “It represents a substantial upgrade from our previous infrastructure, and will enable us to deliver the level of hardware-based security our clients require.”

HostGee’s fully virtualized Managed Firewall Cluster allows clients to scale without adding hardware for additional firewall capacity. With the firewall integrated into the company’s core network infrastructure, there is no need for client servers to be physically close to the firewall hardware. The solution competes with SOHO-class firewall solutions offered by other web hosts. Although affordable, SOHO-class solutions often cannot handle enough sessions or manage backups effectively when servers deal with a lot of traffic. HostGee’s new offering is available at a starting price of $99 per month.

About HostGee:
Located in Saudi Arabia, HostGee caters to a global customer base of small to medium sized companies and provides Windows dedicated server, Linux, and BSD solutions. The company “specializes in managing unique client needs”. It maintains a high-performance network featuring redundant carrier class Cisco 6509 routers with SUP720-3BXL engines. In September of this year it acquired “over 560 miles of dark fiber” which, the company suggests, provides “an additional 10Gbps of throughput” between its two Saudi Arabia-based data centers. This additional capacity enables HostGee to offer a number of multi-site services including multi-site clustering and multi-site load-balancing.
